Description
The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is seeking applicants for its 2026–27 Stanton Nuclear Security Fellowship. The fellowship offers younger scholars studying nuclear security issues the opportunity to conduct policy-relevant research at CFR’s New York or Washington, DC, offices. CFR awards up to two fellowships annually.
The fellowship begins on September 8, 2026, and runs for twelve months.
How to Apply
Program details, eligibility requirements, and the online application can be found at: www.cfr.org/fellowships/stanton-nuclear-security-fellowship. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
The deadline to apply is November 30, 2025. If you have questions about the fellowship, please email fellowships@cfr.org.
CFR has a long-standing commitment to making the foreign policy community in the United States more representative of American society as a whole and actively seeks fellowship candidates from diverse backgrounds.
Requirements
This transformational program enables selected fellows to lead a project of their own design, conduct original research, write at least one policy-relevant document, and contribute to the Council's work on nuclear security issues.
Fellows will be based in either CFR's New York or Washington, DC, office. The fellowship is intended as an in-person experience; fellows should expect to work on-site at least three days per week, including Tuesdays and Thursdays as Anchor Days.
