Assistant/Associate Professor of Public Administration, Public Management or Public Policy (Tenure-Track)

The Institute of Public Affairs (INAP, by its Spanish acronym) of the University of Chile is looking for Ph.D.-holding applicants for two academic full-time positions in the general areas of Public Administration, Public Management, or Public Policy. It is expected that candidates have a specialization in some of the following areas: comparative study of public administration; management in public organizations; innovation in public management; subnational and local governments; formulation, implementation and/or evaluation of public policy, and gender and inclusion policies, among others.

The University of Chile, founded in 1842, is the oldest higher education institution in Chile, and the first in the country in scientific production and impact. It is the #7 best higher educational establishments in Latin America according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), and ranked #6 in the region according to the Times Higher Education (THE).

The Institute of Public Affairs (INAP) of the University of Chile develops research, teaching, engagement, and technical cooperation and advising aimed to confronting the main problems and issues of public interest in society. It is currently developing an ambitious organizational growth strategy to become the School of Government of the University of Chile. INAP has two undergraduate programs: Public Administration and Political Science, with about 800 students. It also offers four graduate programs: M.A. in Political Science, M.A. in Government and Public Management, M.A. in Criminology and Citizen Security Management, and M.A. in Local and Regional Development and Management, with more than 200 students. Furthermore, there are a significant number of executive education certificate programs. Numerous political and social leaders, senior executive managers as well as public and nonprofit professionals have studied in our academic programs.

The Institute of Public Affairs (INAP) is located in Santiago, Chile, the capital and largest city in the country, with a population of approx. 7 million in Greater Santiago. At 473 m (1,555 ft.) above sea level, the city is located in the central valley and has the Andes Mountains as a backdrop, just 50 km away from ski centers to the east and 120 km away from the coast to the west. Santiago has a Mediterranean climate: hot summers (November to March) reaching up to an average maximum of 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) and cool winters (June to September) averaging 13 degrees Celsius (55 Fahrenheit). Its time zone is GMT-3 and has direct flights to many cities in Europe, the U.S.A., and Latin America. Moreover, Santiago has a diverse, cosmopolitan culture, influenced by indigenous cultures and the different groups of immigrants arriving from Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the rest of Latin America.


Applicants are expected to hold a Ph.D. in Public Administration, Public Policy, Public Management or a related discipline. They must have experience conducting high-impact research in public administration, public management or public policy through publications in top international academic journals, national or international research grants or awards, and an ambitious research agenda. Applicants are also expected to have undergraduate and graduate teaching experience.

- Not previously disqualified from holding public functions or positions, nor to have been sentenced by a court of law.
- Not previously dismissed from a public position as a result of having obtained a poor grade, or due to disciplinary action.
