APPAM is a nonprofit professional society dedicated to improving policy and management by fostering excellence in research, policy analysis and education. Founded May 1979 in Durham, NC. First research conference was November 1979 in Chicago, IL. Opened an independent office in Washington, DC in 1993. Incorporated in Washington, DC in 1999. Exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Exempt from sales taxes in Washington, DC. Staff size: 1 (1993) - 1.5 (1995) - 2 (1996) - 3 (2005).
