Company Profile
Company Overview
Berkeley Policy Associates is a small, employee-owned, majority woman-owned business conducting social policy research and program evaluations, particularly in the areas of employment, education, youth, welfare, and disability policy. Our mission is to provide high-quality data to policy makers to promote programs and policies that effectively assist individuals who are experiencing barriers to full participation in society due to poverty, lack of education, lack of employment, exposure to violence, welfare participation, limited English proficiency, disability, or related issues. BPA is located near downtown Oakland, CA.
Company History
Berkeley Policy Associates was founded in 1972 by five professors associated with U.C. Berkeley's Department of City and Regional Planning. In 1994 the sole owner, one of the original founders, sold the firm to the employees through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). Over time the focus of our work has shifted from local and regional planning to federal- and state-level policy research. Today BPA is a well-respected firm and a frequent partner of our larger counterparts in the social policy research field.
Benefits
BPA offers a casual, flexible environment. We also have the technology to enable staff to work efficiently from home when necessary, and from the field. Our retirement plan comprises our ESOP and 401k plans, providing staff with a variety of retirement instruments, as well as a real stake in the business.
