The School of Government (SOG) in Sun Yat-sen University was established on September 30th, 2001 and is one of the leading schools in public affairs and political science in China.
SOG has a Department of Political Science and a Department of Public Administration. It also has research centers and institutes in the fields of political science, anti-corruption, volunteer service and social policy, social security and social policy, data and case studies of Chinese government and politics. The Center for Chinese Public Administration Research is the sole research base in public administration designated by the Ministry of Education.
SOG offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees in Political Science, Public Administration, Political Theory, Comparative Politics, Chinese Politics, Political Communication, Social Security, Urban Management and Land Resources Management. Two pos¬t-doctoral stations in the field of Public Administration and Political Science have also been established.
SOG has an internationalized team of young faculty members, including 23 professors, 18 associate professors, 13 assistant professors and 16 research fellows. More than half of the faculty hold overseas doctoral degrees and over 90% have international research experience. Our team’s professional expertise covers public budgeting, social policy, urban management, local governance, anti-corruption, labor politics, NPC study, political theory, and many other areas of relevant inquiry.
7,855 students have graduated from SOG since its establishment in 2001. Currently, SOG has 1,931 students of which 624 are undergraduates, 218 are graduate students, 886 are MPA students, and 26 are IMPA students. The MPA and IMPA programs are of particular importance to the school and best represent SOG’s high standards for quality.
SOG has developed a broad and international network of universities and institutions in Asia, North America, Europe, South America and Africa. Collaborative projects include joint-degree programs, short-term exchange programs, international summer schools, course collaboration projects, visiting scholar programs, PhD joint training programs, collaborative research, and many others.
