Los Angeles County is seeking an Executive Officer to support the Office of the Chief Probation Officer and help advance the Department's strategic and operational priorities. This executive-level role will manage special projects, support Board directives, coordinate executive leadership activities, and serve as a key liaison with County departments, justice partners, public agencies, and community stakeholders.
The Executive Officer will work in a fast-paced environment requiring sound judgment, strong communication, careful coordination, and the ability to move complex initiatives forward. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to the County's efforts to build a more equitable, rehabilitative, and restorative justice system.

The Department is central to the County's 'Care First, Jails Last' vision and provides evidence-based services and support designed to promote rehabilitation, reintegration, and successful outcomes for youth, adults, families, and communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Chief Probation Officer in managing Board directives, executive priorities, and departmental initiatives
- Lead and coordinate special projects, management studies, research assignments, and operational improvement efforts
- Prepare complex reports, presentations, agendas, briefing materials, meeting minutes, and other executive-level documents
- Coordinate Executive Leadership Team meetings and follow up on decisions and action items
- Serve as a liaison between executive leadership and County departments, justice partners, public agencies, community organizations, and other stakeholders
- Evaluate and help develop policies, procedures, systems, and plans to improve workflow and organizational effectiveness
- Track assignments and delegate work on behalf of the Chief Probation Officer to support timely implementation
- Anticipate executive needs, assess issues, and recommend appropriate actions, referrals, or responses
- Support outreach, relationship management, vendor selection, and other operational needs of the Department
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a highly organized and collaborative executive professional with extensive experience in government operations, executive administration, policy development, project management, and stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent judgment, strong written and oral communication skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex public-sector environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or a closely related field
- Five years of highly responsible experience in an administrative, advisory, or staff capacity involving extensive contact with Probation, criminal justice agencies, and other public agency representatives on legislative, community, governmental, or similarly complex matters
- At least three years of the required experience preparing and recommending departmental policy on complex and sensitive issues involving budget, personnel, program operations, and organizational matters in a large human services agency
- Valid California Class C driver's license or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation to perform job-related essential functions
Desirables
- Executive management experience in a large and complex governmental agency involved in probation, parole, criminal justice, or human services
- Knowledge of federal and state laws, California legal codes, and County policies related to adult and juvenile justice
- Experience with strategic planning, legislation, policy development, program operations, and the deployment of financial, personnel, and physical resources
- Demonstrated fiscal responsibility for large operating budgets and experience managing a sizable workforce
- Strong leadership, public relations, interpersonal, and media communication skills
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: $152,556 - $237,255 annually, based on qualifications and career accomplishments
- Defined-benefit retirement plan

- 401(k) and 457 plans that may include County matching contributions of up to 4% each
